As far as I'm aware, The_Elder_Cato was the last person to make a Rom Hack guide, so I figured I'd give my list of my favorite Rom Hacks.

Note: Pokemon rom hacks below are for Game Boy Advance only, you can play them with any GBA emulator. Remakes/Difficulty:

• Nameless Fire Red Project: This is easily one of the best Rom Hacks ever made. With updated battle mechanics, mega evolutions, updated moves, hidden grottos, and all the polish you would expect from an actual Pokemon game, this is the best Fire Red remake out there. There are even options in-game to turn it into a Nuzlocke, set the level limit of your Pokemon, and even set the difficulty. Please play this if you haven't yet.

• Altered Emerald: Like Nameless Fire Red, Altered Emerald knocks it out of the park. It changes the pace of the original Emerald with remixed maps and remixed route progression. Also, it makes most Pokemon that you would never use on your team viable. Finally, the developer, luuma, has been making updates recently, fixing bugs and adding more content to the game.

• Liquid Crystal: This is the best Johto remake in Gen 3. Like the latter two hacks, there is a great level of polish in this game, like having Day/Night, a weather system, and so much more. You can even go to Orange Islands after you complete the game. If you're looking for a Johto remake, look no further than Liquid Crystal.

• Double Emerald: This hack makes every battle a double battle in Emerald. This is a must play for anyone who loves competitive battling, Colosseum or XD, or just loves double battles. Of course there are also updated battle mechanics and increased difficulty without feeling unfair.

• Blazing Emerald: Our Struedelmuffin's own Rom Hack, this is another great Emerald remake. The tiles are completely remade, the soundtrack is updated with gen 4 music, there is a day/night system, and lots of other great QOL updates. It also adds a bunch of great content that feels like it was part of the original game. Go check the hack out, and go check out their Discord server.

New Regions

• Blazed Glazed: This is one of my favorite Rom Hacks of all time. It takes the Glazed base, and updates it with new Pokemon, moves, better difficulty, and more. Of course you can't go wrong with the original Glazed since it has three whole regions, and tons of content. A must play for anyone who hasn't yet.

• Light Platinum: This was the first Rom Hack I ever played, and it was a great introduction to the world of Rom Hacks. Whenever anyone wants to start playing Rom Hacks themselves, I point them to Light Platinum first. It has two regions with new tiles and maps, and a fun storyline. This hack is a classic.

• Cyan: Cyan has some of the best updated tiles in any Rom Hack. The region is fun and the Fakemon are great. Your decisions also affect the storyline, which isn't something a lot of Rom Hacks can say. If you don't mind Fakemon, give this hack a try. Beware though, the hack isn't complete yet, but it is still worth a play.

• Korosu: Really all of Crizzle's hacks (CAWPS and Outlaw) are great. They have a dark side not seen in main-line Pokemon games. In my opinion Korosu is the best of Crizzle's hacks because it has the best storyline, along with updated battle mechanics. Be warned though, there are very mature themes in this game.

• Vega: This hack has hands-down some of the best Fakemon ever. This hack is pretty difficult, and there were a few of puzzles I couldn't figure out. This game also adds lots of new moves and has a large post game. If you can't handle the difficulty, you could play Vega Minus which lowers the levels and nerfs some of the trainer's and Gym Leader's movesets.
